The Alma Fig is an excellent, low-maintenance choice for home gardeners, especially in humid southern climates where it was developed.

Key Characteristics of Alma Figs

  • Pollination: Self-fertile, common fig type.
  • Fruit: Small to medium, pear-shaped, with golden-brown skin and amber pulp.
  • Flavor: Sweet, honey-caramel, with a rich, nutty taste.
  • Climate: Bred for humid Southern climates, cold hardy to about 6°F (Zones 7-10).
  • Growth: Vigorous, adaptable to containers, and produces two crops (breba & main).

Because it's self-fertile, you only need one Alma fig tree to get fruit, and it's known for its reliable, heavy yields.
