The Emerald Blueberry is a popular Southern Highbush blueberry variety known for its vigorous growth, high yields, and adaptability to warmer climates. Released in 1999, it's a newer variety, a hybrid resulting from a cross between Northern Highbush blueberry and various southern species, making it tolerant of heat and mild winters.
Emerald produces abundant clusters of large to very large berries with a mild, sweet flavor. This variety is known for its prolific fruit production. The berries do not ripen uniformly, allowing for a longer harvest period. Emerald requires approximately 200 chill hours, making it suitable for regions with mild winters, such as USDA Zones 7-10.
The plant reaches a mature height of 5-8 feet and a width of 4-6 feet. Beyond its delicious fruit, Emerald also offers attractive foliage that turns vibrant red in the fall, adding visual interest to your landscape.
