Malus domestica ”King David”

King David has a reputation as an intensely flavored apple with notes of  pineapple, tangerine, lemon, sweet, sour, tart, sharp, aromatic and spicy.

The fine juicy flesh is distinctly yellow and firm yet tender. Often served as a dessert apple, this variety is also great for making pies and applesauce or apple butter. The fruits are medium-sized and very dark solid maroon. This variety was discovered in 1893 and is thought to be a cross between Arkansas Black and Jonathan.
